On May 11, 2015, Univention released the third point release 4.0-3 of its Linux Enterprise distribution Univention Corporate Server providing numerous bugfixes and (security) updates as well as improvements in design and usability of the UCS management system.
New is the automatic creation of Univention Apps for all major virtualization environments (VMware, VMware ESX, VirtualBox, and KVM) that are ready for use and instantly available via the Univention App Center. Univention Apps are complete applications consisting of the UCS platform, UCS Virtual Machine Manager as the management system, and the app itself such as ownCloud, Open-Xchange, Zarafa, or Bareos. They come with an automatic patch, update, and life cycle management and can be easily integrated into existing (Active Directory) environments.
Further highlights of UCS 4.0-3 are:
Increase in performance of the UCS mail component thanks to the integration of the mail server Dovecot as UCS' default IMAP/POP3 server
Faster navigation within the management interface via the use of the web browser's back and forth button
Provision of additional LDAP filters that limit the efficacy of LDAP-based guidelines to objects matching the filters
Update to the latest Samba software version 4.2.3 with improvements in the DRS replication and as to the handling of printer drivers
Latest, stable longterm Linux kernel 3.16, which includes various security updates as well as additional and updated drivers for improved hardware support.

minor feature:
This first patchlevel release after the release of UCS 4.0 includes many new features, e.g.:
- Update of the UCS basis through the integration of the Debian "Wheezy" 7.8 point update
- Simplification of the UCS system setup
- Improvements of the integrated tool "Active Directory Connection": This tool is perfect for everyone who wants to extend an existing Windows server environment with additional Enterprise applications via the Univention App Center. For example, groupware solutions such as OX App Suite or Zarafa which are installed via the Univention App Center can thus be managed via Microsoft Active Directory including all existing user identities.
- Simplification of UCS cloud setups: Cloud setup information from cloud service providers is now directly transmitted to UCS. Thus, cloud service providers can provide their customers with a pre-configured and ready-to start UCS-based cloud installation.
